2006 Grant History
Project Hope
Project Hope is a nonprofit service organization located in the Queens Village area of New York that seeks to continue a Learning Development Community comprehensive after-school program of academic enhancement & youth leadership development training with incentive and interrelated activities in cultural, recreation and sports. We prepare youth to meet the challenges of adolescence through activities, which help them to become socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively competent and resilient.
Despite the evident need for these services, Project Hope is the only program providing such services in this area at the present time. Statistically, this area should be earmarked for a variety of interventions.
The $15,000 grant from The G-Unity Foundation will help defray the cost of hiring teachers, homework monitors and other support staff and help pay for the program site, reading/math lab and provide program supplies.
This grant will help to continue their Learning Development Community comprehensive after-school program for the 06-07 school year, which will serve as protective factors to youth: Academic enhancement, Youth Leadership Development training and Cultural & Recreation that include, but are not limited to, remediation and enrichment activities in math and reading, homework assistance, tutoring, goal setting, anger management, credit scores, investments, job readiness skills and etc... competitive sports, games and performing arts activities, grassroots initiatives such as community block parties and trips that brings the community together to build positive working relationships and an extensive referral/linkage network to ensure community access to a variety of services.
